Victoria N.

I want to express honor and appreciation to my own attorney, Victoria N. I'm withholding her last name until I know whether it is ok to include it here.

I met Victoria through another attorney I had been using who had expressed concerns over the constitutionality of the current no fault divorce legislation. He brought her in for assistance as he felt she had more experience in family law.

There were problems with the way he was handling my case and it seemed he was overcharging and running me into danger then holding out his hand for more money constantly timing those requests to match critical upcoming events such as hearings. When my money ran out, he pressured me to ask my parents to help or suffer abandonment in court.

Finally, I had no more money and I could not ask my parents for any more, nor did I want to, and out in the parking lot of the hotel where Victoria stayed, he required me to sign a substitution of attorney so that he would no longer be my attorney. Victoria cried and hugged my daughter and me and told me to call her directly. She would no longer be taking any more work from that attorney.

Victoria honored her promise to help us out without cost except for hotel and travel expenses and even helped during a very tragic time in her own life sacrificially. When my previous attorney found out, he made an estimate of how much time he thought she worked and then charged me for the time she spent pro-bono on my case and filed an illegal lien against my house which was under court order to be listed for sale.

I cannot help but pray for this great woman with a great heart and hope for an opportunity to return the favor somehow, though it's hard to find a way to return a favor as great as the one she did for us and for the love of people and for the love of justice.

Stolen Vows - Recommended Book

Judy Parejko wrote an excellent book called Stolen Vows

This book won't let you go until you have read it completely. Here is a story of a woman who worked as a family court mediator until she began trying to help couples with viable marriages find help to resolve their problems rather than divorce. After it seemed marriages were being saved, suddenly she found the door to her office locked.
