For the person being divorced by an unfaithful spouse, the pain of divorce can be excruciating. How can one cope with the pain and depression of divorce while being forced through a gauntlet of robbery and abuse?
There is an issue that eclipses all the pain of the divorce, and that is the standing of the unfaithful with God.
After my wife began her affair with the first major other man, I was in a heavy quarrel with him one day and suddenly he told me our marriage was already dead and he knew he was going to heaven because he had done nothing wrong.
Suddenly, it was as if the Holy Spirit had caused me to stop and my concern for the horrible thing that was happening was no longer as important when I realized that there was an eternal issue with what was happening. Bruno was trusting in his goodness to get him into heaven, and I knew I had to tell him that if either of us get to heaven it will not be because of our good works but because of what Christ did for us on the cross to pay for our sins. Suddenly his soul mattered to me more than my marriage.
